Red Hook lacrosse stuck at the start

After the game, Saulino said of Loeffel, “He was solid right from the start and tried to set the tempo for the defense, which he will all year. He’s a leader, he’s been with us for a long time — it was an outstanding game for him tonight.”

Things got chippy in the third quarter. Kingston tried its best to knock around the Raiders, and a Kingston defender laid a hefty hit on Ian Taylor at 6:36. Taylor was slow to get up, but responded with a goal at 2:19 from a nearly-flat angle on the right side of the crease. Kingston managed four goals in the period.

The Tigers wasted no time in the fourth, cutting Red Hook’s defense to ribbons and scoring close to the goal. Kingston scored four goals in the first six minutes of the quarter and would come out of the period with six.

Kingston’s Brian Loughin led all offensive players with four goals and three assists; Alessi led Red Hook with one goal and one assist. Three other Kingston players scored two goals apiece.

But overall Saulino was optimistic about the loss. “Great experience for our boys. Playing a top-notch program like Kingston gives us an opportunity to develop both offensively and defensively. There’s some serious big-game experience – it’s valuable, despite the score,” he said.
